HMBD-001 (anti-HER3 monoclonal antibody)

Hummingbird Bioscience has entered into a clinical trial collaboration and supply agreement with Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany to evaluate HMBD-001 in combination with cetuximab in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs).
Hummingbird Bioscience has identified genetic signatures predictive of response to HMBD-001. To recruit patients with these profiles, the company has partnered with Omico, a national, independent, not-for-profit organisation, facilitating a national network of leading researchers, clinicians and industry partners accelerating the use of genomics and precision oncology for Australian patients.
Hummingbird Bioscience announced presentation of positive clinical data for the dose escalation part of the HMBD-001 Phase I/IIa trial (NCT05057013) at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress 2023 (ESMO 2023). The Phase I/IIa clinical trial in the UK is sponsored and managed by Cancer Research UK’s Centre for Drug Development.

Traditional antibody generation allows for limited control over epitopes resulting in sub-optimal antibodies. Similarly, many drug targets have proven challenging to modulate in a productive manner. Hummingbird Bioscience’s Rational Antibody Discovery (RAD) platform can generate highly differentiated antibodies to epitopes of interest on proteins associated with disease.

Collaborate on preclinical research
Our approach to therapeutic antibody discovery combines computational and systems biology with wet lab work in a collaborative environment spanning initial discovery through clinical development. This integrated approach enables the team to increase the efficiency of translating novel scientific insights and reduces some of the inherent risk in drug discovery and development. Hummingbird Bioscience’s team has deep experience in engineering antibody therapies, from target identification to antibody engineering, animal studies and beyond.
